USWNT World Cup Champion, Carli Lloyd, stole the NFL spotlight during her attendance at the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens joint practice last week. After their practice, Lloyd booted a 55-yard field goal right down the middle of the field goal post. Ever since this video became viral, it seems that everyone forgot all about the NFL preseason games.

Only two UNCG players have ever had their jersey retired, and one of them is Kyle Hines. The UNCG All-Time leading scorer put the Spartans on the map once again by putting together a team for The Basketball Tournament (TBT). TBT is a single-elimination tournament where teams are playing for a grand prize of $2 million. First you must win your team must win the regional tournament before they can go to the Championship round in Chicago. The eight regional rounds were Columbus, OH, Greensboro, NC, Lexington, KY, Memphis, TN, Richmond, VA, Salt Lake City, UT, Syracuse, NY, and Wichita, KS. In the regional tournament, the team that win will earn the shares of all fans who attended the game. In the Championship round, the winner takes home the $2 million.

The United States Women’s National Team made their home country proud during the 2019 FIFA World Cup. Bringing home the world cup, celebrating in style, and standing up to criticism are all things that the USWNT has done to truly represent the American way on a global scale. And Megan Rapinoe has been the leader of the team, both on and off the court. She’s had support from teammates, coaches, fans in the stadium, American citizens, but most of all, her girlfriend, Sue Bird. The 3x WNBA Champion and 3x Gold Medalist make a strong power couple. They were the first openly gay couple to appear in ESPN’s Body Issue.

Just a month ago, if someone were to tell you that a 15-year-old tennis player would beat Venus Williams in the first round of Wimbledon, you would think that they were lying. But in fact, they would have been a fortune teller. Ever since Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff defeated the elder Williams sister, her life has been exposed to the big screens. After that stellar performance against Venus, Gauff put on a show once again with a comeback victory against Polona Hercog. CNN, ESPN, and all media platforms cannot get enough of Coco Gauff. She’s received admiration from numerous celebrities, even one of her idols, Michelle Obama.

The United States Womens’ National Team is doing a fantastic job of representing their country. They’re making their fans proud at home and also to the sold-out crowd that they are having in France. The 13-0 win over Thailand, 3-0 win over Chile, 2-0 win over Sweden, and the 2-1 win over Spain has now set up the Americans to face the host team of France in the quarterfinals.

Cleveland Cavaliers’ head coach, John Beilein, and general manager, Coby Altman, have brought an addition to the coaching staff; someone that most would not expect. Former University of California Berkeley head coach, Lindsay Gottlieb, has been hired as an assistant coach for the Cavaliers. She will be the first women’s collegiate head coach recruited to an NBA coaching staff.

The Atlanta Dream will be without their franchise superstar, Angel McCoughtry, in the early start of the 2019 WNBA season. She suffered a few torn ligaments in her knee before the 2018 WNBA Playoffs, therefore, she is taking her recovery day by day. The 5-time WNBA All-Star will be supporting her team from the sidelines. The Dream had a strong team effort with a season opening win over the Dallas Wings, by holding them to just 35.1% shooting.

Well, I’m here to highlight some stellar performances from the WNBA’s top rookies and veterans.
WNBA MVP SITS FOR THE 2019 SEASON

The MVP trophy for the WNBA is up for grabs as last year’s winner is unable to defend her title. Breanna Stewart will not be playing in the 2019 WNBA season, as she announced that she ruptured her Achilles in the EuroLeague title game. She is in the prime of her career, as she notched several accolades within the past year: WNBA MVP, WNBA Finals MVP, FIBA World Cup MVP, FIBA EuroLeague Women regular season MVP, WNBA Champion, and FIBA World Cup Champion. The talk of the town is not the injury, but the fact that even the WNBA MVP has to play in two leagues to maintain a stable living.
